I pray before going out to do the work of an Evangelist. I prayed especially for a free parking space down on Cumberland. Tomorrow is the UT vs. Florida football game. It was crazy already downtown and the game has not started. I walked up and down Cumberland Ave. and passed out tracts. Read the 3rd chapter of John on a street corner next to Old College Inn.  Then I went back to the spot in front of the Taco Bell facing the bars and a liquor store.  For about 3o minutes I read the Bible.

After thirty minutes, a  gentleman walks up beside me with a couple of tracts and starts passing out tracts as I read the word. When he ran out of tracts he asked if he could help me pass out some of my tract stash. I gladly let him. I introduced myself to him. He and I both share the same name. He is a drifter and just got into Knoxville after a long bike ride from Tazwell. He did receive an earlier ride from South Kentucky to Tazwell by a minister.  When talking to Rob, I received assurance from the Lord, Rob was a believer and a God-sent help to me. We probably passed out about 50 tracts, a Gospel of John, and a pocket New Testament, “The Invitation”.  I gave him one of my tracts with the website to get ahold of me next time he is on the Internet. He told me of a legal matter he had to take care of in the area. I prayed with him about the legal matter and for his safety wherever the Lord guides him and to have that continue boldness of the Holy Spirit in sharing  Jesus. I did not have any money to give him for food or hotel, but I pray that the Lord will me his needs. Thank you Jesus for sending, Rob.

While we were handing out tracts, a group of gang bangers started yelling at us and going by us, “Satan is Lord, Satan is God, etc”  Rob and I shook our heads knowing spiritual attack comes when light shines in the darkness.  Towards the end as I started to read scripture for the last time the noise level on a live band went super loud. Yet the Lord gave me scripture to read and no music was going to drown out the reading of the Bible. At other times when not reading the Bible, I started reading the tracts. If the college crowd was not going to read them, then I will read it to them.

At times when I had one of the million dollar bills in mine hands, I held them up. I figured if the UT scalpers where going to hold their products(tickets) in the air to sell, I was going to hold up my tracts and if someone asked me how much I was charging for a ticket, I would say this ticket is free and hand them a gospel tract.

I left rejoicing for the seeds planted and for the Lord sending Rob to help distribute tracts.

I was able to take a personal day from work on Wednesday. This does not mean I was lazy. It was an opportunity to go “trackin”. The mall I dropped a MDB(Million Dollar Bill) on the ground and stood off several feet away. It was picked up by one gentleman. He read the back of the tract out loud to his wife another individual. He did not keep the tract. The tract was noticed by two “Blue-haired.'”(WW II generation morning walkers.) but did not pick it up.  A few moments later it was picked up by a Latino mall environmental specialist.(Janitor.) He placed the tract in his front pocket. So I prayed for him and those that came in contact with the tract.

After leaving the mall, I went to a bookstore and picked out several books for a free bookmark(i.e. business card tract.) Most of the book chosen were very liberal Christian books, a Buddhist book, Rick Warren’s “Purpose” book on the famous page(58) to place a tract by evangelists, and another tract went in the book…again….: “The Ten Commandments of Witches”. There are now two of the four copies of that book in a bookstore I frequently attend. One of the books still had one of the original tracts.  So the one book with the missing tract was replaced with another tract.  A  new age/witch/non-Christian did something with the other tract, either trashed it or kept it. (Hoping for the latter.)

Then I went downtown to hand out several different types of tracts. I came across several of the kids across the United States for the “Destination Imagination” summer event.  One group of kids got the Million Dollar Bill the others got a tract with the history of the outcomes of the Founding Fathers of our nation. The Founding Fathers tract gives the story of how many of the signers of the Constitution were either killed or destitute for signing the document declaring our freedom from Britain. Then it follows how Jesus came to die on the cross for our freedom from the penalty of sin. Several other people shopping or working downtown received a tract.  I thank God for the good weather to go out and evangelize and pray for the seeds planted.

Around 830pm I arrived on Market Square in Knoxville, TN. The Dogwood Arts Festival was not opened late at night. Yet, there were hundreds of people eating, drinking, and enjoying a nice evening. The Lord gave me some creativity in distributing  Gospel materials. I had about 20 Gospel of John(NIV) and a handful of the Christmas Million Dollar Bills. So I place a bill in each of the Gospel of John books.  The idea was a person will more likely keep the tract if placed in the Gospel book. I only saw two GOJ with/tract on the ground and another person rejected a Gospel of John. However, out of the 20 Gospel of John books 18 were kept by the receiver and another 10 Million Dollar Bills were given out.

Just planted seeds and pray other brother and sisters in the Lord will come and help me harvest on the Market Square “Farmville”(My reality version  of the Facebook game “Farmville”) Remember the Lord is the one that makes the seed grow. I do not have time to do Farmville on the Internet. Yet, I love doing real spiritual Farmville among the Lost in Knoxville.

Proverbs 16:9 (New King James Version)

A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

I had a blessed time with family and friends during my annual Christmas visit. Despite the snow, getting bumped and delayed on buses going home,   sick people, a water heater going wacko, and  a screw in my dad’s truck tire;  the Lord had his hand in directing me to the people needing a word of encouragement and a gospel tract.

God used these situations to lead me to the people needing to receive a gospel tract and/or encouragement.  I prayed for God to go before me in any encounter during the trip and in the Joplin area.  Several people at the various Greyhound bus stations picked up the Santa Million Dollar bill or the little bible book(a quarter size tract with various bible scriptures with an opportunity to repent and put their faith in Jesus.)

The mall evangelistic outreach was me. The snow on Christmas bumped people to reschedule their Christmas on the weekend. Others had the flu. Mom and dad had to babysit a water heater til a repairman came to the house.

So, it was Monday morning when the roads were safely cleared to do the outreach. I almost did not get to go out to the mall after taking my dad’s truck to the tire shop. He had a screw in a tire which was slowly going flat.(At the tire shop, I met a Christian family. The father and I started talking and it was an encouragement to me during my time at the tire shop.  I left a gospel tract in the waiting area.)

Went to a bank to cash some Christmas moola and gave the bank tellers some Santa Million Dollar Bills.  Left on the table a million dollar bill at a fast food burger eatery.   Then FINALLY, I was off to the mall….AGAIN.

I prayed for the mall cops at Northpark Mall to be blind to the evangelistic outreach.(Never fun to have the mall cops(i.e. Paul Blarts) tell you to stop or throw away any tracts.) I was able to give out some Million Dollar Bills to mall shoppers.(This includes both those I did not know personally and those I did know personally.)   I made sure every chair and bench in the mall had a gospel tract. I returned to some of the benches and put out more tracts that the previous tract was in the hands of a mall shopper. I did the fish feeding of dropping the million dollar bill on the ground and stand to the side watching shoppers picking up the bill.

The Lord gave me opportunities to talk with friends receiving the tracts. One of them actually thanked me and gave me a hug for giving them the “little bible” gospel tract. When you witness to friends, I did have the butterflies in the stomach more than I would a total stranger. There were at times I was hesitant giving a tract to acquaintances, yet the Lord gave me strength to overcome the apprehension .

I probably spent about two hours at the mall before heading out. As I was leaving, I just prayed and thanked God for the opportunity to share my faith at the mall.  I hope many put their faith in Jesus. Yet, I was not done…….

It was off  to Books-A-Million……(Thank you to Tony Miano for posting on his blog about book stuffing.) The bookstore is half the size  of the one in Knoxville.  Many popular titles and especially the Joel Osteen(Ostink) books received a free bookmark.  I was able to make it over to the New Age and Witchcraft section and went to town with the Santa bills.

On the ride back to Knoxville, I was able to give out some of the bills, the new year’s resolution tracts, and the little bible ministry tracts to lots of people at the greyhound locations and on the buses.

The last bus taking me back to Knoxville was the most fruitful. After several of us got tired of hearing a man snore very, very, very, VERY loudly in the back of the bus, we moved to the front after many got off the bus at a stop en route to Knoxville.  Who would have thought this snoring man gave me the opportunity to be reseated around both Christians and non-Christians.  Those around me were interested in the gospel tracts. So many of them were given several to share with their family and friends. A lady old enough to be my mother  was sitting next to me.  She shared with me of  her life and being remarried and having children and grandchildren.  We got to the stop for our lunch break. She only had about sixty-five cents. I ended up buying her lunch and gave her a “little bible” gospel tract.(It had a happy face with “Jesus loves you” on the front and had the scripture explaining about what it means to repent and put her faith in Jesus. ) From the discussion I had with her, I could tell she had some spiritual background, but unsure if she was saved. So instead of automatically assuming she was a Christian, I still gave her a tract.  The bus stopped at Knoxville and everyone either got on another bus or Knoxville was their last stop. Once we got off the bus, she gave me a hug and thanked me for the lunch and the gospel tract. I was definitely thanking the Lord for this encounter with this lady and pray for her salvation or strengthened her faith if she was a Christian.

So after I got back to the house and showered, I went to evening services at Calvary Chapel Knoxville. I was able to tell those about my adventures in witnessing encounters.

EXTRA: I was able to see my church family at Calvary Chapel Joplin. I gave the gospel tracts, “The Man of Salvation”  to the prison ministry guy at CC Joplin, Ron Wright.  Some will be given to the CC Joplin Saturday Evangelism team and potentially in the prison outreach after approval from the organization. He works with the organization, “Bill Glass Champions for Life”. Once they review the tract, Bill Glass may be potentially using “The Man of Salvation”  So pray for this gospel tract to be used to the glory of God. It give scripture, why you need to be saved, repentance, and faith in Jesus. (all using the name of Jesus in an acrostic fashion) If you are interested in purchasing a pack of  “The Man of Salvation” please contact Calvary Chapel Knoxville at 865-609-1385 (phone), (web)  http://www.calvaryknoxville.org/ , (mail) 2864 Alcoa Hwy, Knoxville TN 37920, (email) knoxville@calvarychapel.com

Unique Tract Reactions

November 22, 2009

1 Thessalonians 1:5 (New Living Translation)

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you.

God’s Word has can have an explosive effect on people. When sharing your faith, sometimes you can see people’s reactions.  I had three separate incidents by just using a simple gospel tract.

The first was an older couple. The man noticed I dropped a Million Dollar Bill.  He thought I accidentally dropped the bill.(I did not.) I told him I sometimes purposefully drop the Gospel tract which look like real money. He said that was neat. He then proceeded to tell me he was a retired minister and how it was a blessing to see someone evangelizing.  He encouraged me to never quit doing what the Lord started in me.

The second incident was at my every other year eye exam.  After the doctor was done checking my eyes, I showed him one of my eye illusion tracts(the curved angle tract).  He liked it and I told him he could have it to show his other colleagues in his eye profession. Then I told him there was a gospel message on the back of the tracts.

The last and funny incident was at KFC. I sat next to the trash cans.  I placed the fake Monopoly game piece(Get out of Hell free card) on top of the cans where the trays are returned.  I watch how one man took the card back to his family and church family, about 25 adults and children,  occupying half the KFC building.(Must have been Baptists. Ha! Ha!) He handed off to one of the ladies and she very loudly in the dinning area read the gospel tract. They kept the tract.

Just because someone attends a church and has the appearance of  a Christian, does not mean they are saved.  It maybe someone in the church group will come to actual repentance and faith in Jesus instead of playing church religion.

I did have other opportunities to hand out tracts or place them in unique areas such as benches, tables, books, and etc.  It was these unique incidents God let me encounter the explosive power of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 13:10-11 (New Living Translation) ” For the Good News must first be preached to all nations. But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit is our guide and strength as we proclaim Jesus and handout gospel tracts. We can never be truly effective in our own strength. It should all be done in the power of God.

Today, I had one gentleman working at the UT Taco Bell recognized me from a previous evangelistic sidewalk encounter. I may have not been able to immediately recognized him, yet he remembered me giving him a gospel business card tract. This is what one of the business card tracts looks.

I gave the cashier a Million Dollar Bill for taking my order. She took a quick “smoke break” to read the back. There are times I am thankful someone does take the time to read the gospel message. Other times, many people tear up or throw away the tract.  No matter what happens to the tract, I am to continue being faithful to the Great Commission. The power of Evangelism efforts is by God and His Word printed on a Gospel tract.  Just thankful the Lord is using me as an instrument to present the Good News to people.

Afterwords, I took a brisk walk down UT Strip(Cumberland Ave.) and handed out more Million Dollar Bills.

On this cool Saturday night, I walked for about thirty minutes along the UT Strip.(Cumberland Ave.) As college students were bar hopping, The Lord allowed me to hand out several Million Dollar Bill tracts.

One man complemented me on my Hawaiian shirt, for this he received a Million Dollar Bill. If someone approaches me and talks to me firsthand, they automatically get a tract.

I parked in front of the Papa John’s Pizza building. As I walked on the lot to my car, one of the pizza delivery guys drove in and parked his car to grab his next batch of pizza deliveries. I walked up to him and said, “Here is probably your biggest tip of the evening.” I handed him one of the Michael Jackson Million Dollar Bills. He laughed and said thank you.

Some days I am able to converse with those I hand a gospel tract. Other times, it is only a three-second exchange of the MDB(Million Dollar Bill) from my hand to another person’s hand.

I always begin and end in prayer. I pray for protection as I hand out gospel tracts and for seeds to be planted in the hearts and minds of the receiver.

2 Corinthians 5:20 (New Living Translation)

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!

If you want to see sinners repent and place their faith in Jesus, then we need to bring the church to the sinner. Many in the church have it backwards, build a church and the sinner attend. It may happen. Yet according to the Great Commission, we are told by Jesus to “Go into the world.”

If you are a Christian believer, then you are commanded by Christ to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to all people.  155,000 people die each day. Many without repenting and placing their faith in Jesus. What are you doing about it? You may say….”I leave it to the preacher and those called to evangelism.” However, the commandment Jesus gave before ascending into Heaven was for every believer to share and preach the Gospel. So the only way you can be excluded from this is if you are not a believer.

I’m not implying you should become a Billy Graham and hold crusades, unless the Lord tells you.  You daily go out into the public via your job, recreational facilities, events, ball games, etc., so you have a field God has given you to tend.  I will say in the area of you job, do the job you were hired. You can witness by your work ethic and during your lunch break or off the clock you can witness personally to your co-workers.

After church services, I went out to the mall for some fishing(street evangelism). I purposefully dropped the million dollar bills on the ground. In one instance, I saw a group of college age kids pick up the bill. One guy started reading the tract. He then passed it on to his friends. One bill tract was read by seven kids. Pray for these college kids.

In another situation after I dropped a bill, a high school kid picked the bill up read the gospel message and in disgust threw it back on the ground. It was momentarily picked up by a young grade school kid. Then his dad grabbed it out of his hands. The dad read the back and in a huff he tore the bill up and threw it in the garbage.  Now you may say, that was a waste of a tract. However, two men read the gospel message. It cut them in the heart and offended them. Yet, only after time the seeds which were planted will take effect. Over time they will either grow bitter towards the Gospel or it will “bug the tar” out of them til they realize their need for repentance and a Savior. Yet, when they die and stand before the Lord, God will ask them why the rejected the Gospel message. It may have been their only opportunity to know Christ before dying. Just as scripture says:

Romans 1:20 (New Living Translation)

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.

Do not expect immediate conversion at point of impact.  Just like gardening, it takes time to see the results. Even though time is growing short and God will enter time and space. He will say time is up. Everyone will have to give an account of  why they did or did not repent and place their faith in Christ.

Share Jesus with others while the clock is ticking and let us bring as many people to Heaven. The more the merrier.

Just got done with a little street witnessing on UT Strip following the Vol. loss. I went up to several college students and told them, “Here is a million bucks to cheer you up after the loss to the Gators.”
See…..handing out tracts does not have to be scary. Just be creative via the leading of the Holy Spirit.

This past Thursday was a unique opportunity to give away three million dollar bill tracts.(Michael Jackson on the front.)
Walked into the Krystal on Cumberland(For those living outside the South, it is the redneck version of White Castle.) and saw three older black men playing a serious game of Chess. I told the men whoever won the Chess game would be the million dollar winner. Then I layed two more million dollar bills down and said the looser also get a million. Then I layed a third million dollar bill down(not a Michael Jackson one….I ran out of him. It was the one with Rutherford B. Hayes) and said this is for the person acting as the Judge over the chess proceedings.

At Mall East in Knoxville, I gave one million dollar bill to a person walking out of the mall. The man chuckled as I told him don’t spend it all in one place.
So there are places all around us to share our faith and handout tracts. It is not hard to hand out tracts. Yes, you may have to swallow some pride of what others think about you, especially if you encounter someone you know while handing out tracts.
Matthew 10:32 (New Living Translation)
“Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
