It was a beautiful cold night on Market Square. The Christmas lights were lit, lots of people walking around, Salvation Army giving away free hot chocolate(Thank you!), vendors selling their wares, ice skating, and Christmas carols sung at various locations.
This was a wonderful night to distribute Gospel of John books and Gospel tracts. Tonight, people were more receptive to receive Gospel material than other evangelism nights. One Jr. High man took a Gospel tract. As I walked away, two of his little brothers came running to me wanting a gospel tract.
The following Bible verse demonstrates what occurred later on this evening.(Of course down on Market Square it happens frequently, but not to the degree it did tonight.)
2 Timothy 3:5 (English Standard Version)
“having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”
In Krutch Park, I about handed a lady a Gospel of John. She looked at it and then looked at me with pure disgust and hate. Here is her exact words to me in our brief conversation:
Lady: “God does not want you doing this $%@! He wants you to feed the poor and take care of the sick”
She starts to walk off not before I tell her:
Me: “The Bible tells me otherwise.”
Lady stomps back in my direction and very snooty and very loudly proclaims:
” I am a pastor. I have a Master of Theology and I can speak Greek and Hebrew fluently.”(The first sentence out of her mouth told me she also speaks “sailor” fluently.)
I could have got into a verbal diatribe with her. I only ended the conversation with the Holy Spirit giving me the Word of God to speak directly to her. I don’t know why this was the verse he wanted me to give her. In my flesh I would have quoted 2 Timothy 3:5 to her, instead the Lord prompted me to tell her:
1 Corinthians 1:18 (English Standard Version)
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
She then stomped off in a big huff.
She saw what I was handing to her was the Gospel of John. Normally, it is a “Go to Hell” gospel tract which would get me a mean glare. Yet, it was the Bible that she did not want me handing out.
As far as proclaiming theological training, to me she did not possess the spirit of a true Christian pastor. If she is a pastor of a Christian denominational church, it is disappointing but biblically prophetic to know that there is a female wolf in the Knoxville sheep pen . I used the Shepard’s staff(Word of God) to drive her away from me so I could continue doing the Lord’s work.
Matthew 7:15-16 (English Standard Version)
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”
Downtown Knoxville has very liberal unbiblical so-called churches to deter people away from hearing the pure Word of God in a Biblically sound church. Yet, these churches are in existence because according to the book of 2 Timothy.
2 Timothy 4:3 (English Standard Version)
“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions…”
NOTE: God makes pastors, not theological degrees. (See following verses.)
1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (English Standard Version)
“And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
Colossians 2:1-4 (English Standard Version)
“For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I say this in order that no one may delude you with plausible arguments.”
I would also say that being Christian is not just solely feeding the poor and helping the sick. I cannot take full credit for the following response I could have given her: “We can feed the hungry, cloth the naked, and heal the sick. Then when they die these people will be the best fed, clothed and healthy as they go thru the gates of Hell.”
I found it neat as the Lord revealed to me how tonight was the first night of the official lighting of the trees in downtown Knoxville by letting me distribute several copies of the Gospel of John. The front cover of the Gospel of John had two words, “The Light.” The true light of Christmas is none other than Jesus Christ!
John 8:12 (English Standard Version)
“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Here are a list of verses when evangelizing. I am using New King James Version. I attempted to put these in an order of starting with the Ten Commandments(the Law, God’s standard of perfection) showing how the person being evangelized is a sinner by violating God’s standard and will be found guilty on Judgment Day. Then by the Holy Spirit leading them to the Cross and be declared innocent by God(The need for a person to repent and put their faith in Jesus.)
The Ten Commandments
1 And God spoke all these words, saying:
2 “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 “ Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day isIn it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
12 “ Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
12 They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving,[a] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
1 Timothy 2:3-5 (New King James Version)
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
Matthew 4:17 (New King James Version)
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent(Turning away and not returning to your sins), for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Romans 10:9-10, 13 (New King James Version)
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
1 John 1:9
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2 Corinthians 5:17
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Remember to have a balance of Scripture. Don’t leave a person at the Law, follow through to the Cross. Don’t ignore the law/sin issue. The purpose of the Cross was for Jesus to take the guilty status of the sinner upon himself. People need to be aware of the disease(sin) before they take the cure.(Cross). Why should I take a cure if I see no reason to receive the cure? A good doctor tells his patient what is occurring with the patient’s body and after explaining the situation, the doctor will be able to give the cure to the grateful patient. In other words, don’t get the cart before the horse.
Pray to be led by the Holy Spirit in your conversations(Zech. 4:6).
44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
It is God doing the work in man, he just allows us to participate in the process. We are the pen in the Lord’s hand, being filled with the ink of the Holy Spirit to spread the word of Jesus to all we come in contact.

I prayed for no rain in the evening around Market Square. My prayer was answered as God held back the rain for me to hand out Gospel tracts. I started on one end of the Square and gave out some tracts. Then I went to the other end of the square and gave out……you guessed it….more tracts. Then proceeding to Gay Street, I did something……wanna guess???? I handed out more tracts.
There will be opportunities to have neat adventure stories. The other times is just planting seeds(tracts) in the soil(people). Did I encounter any demon possessed people? I might have and the demons might have just been mellowed out for the evening and were told by God to give me a break tonight after the car trouble and sickness I have the past few weeks prior. It is nice to be able to have a smooth evening once in a while.
Many of you may be thinking I act like those idiot “sign guys” yelling out at people and just give out judgments without grace and salvation of Jesus. No way indeed. That is not me, and I try to stay away from those guys if I am in the same area sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In golf, the instructors tell their students to “follow-thru” on their golf swing. If you want to make the golf ball go far, you must do a full swing to allow for maximum impact.
Many of the guys you have seen with the “God hates fags” signs and just give out judgments, do not give a full gospel “follow-thru”. They stop at the judgments on people and entice people into a “legalistic religiosity” which is not “Biblical Christianity.”
As I look how Jesus preached to the masses, He always preached in love while he spoke truth. The only times he got miffed was at the religious leaders for misusing their positions of power to keep people under their thumbs with religious rituals.
I want to mimic my Jesus. I want to share with the world around me(Right now it is Knoxville and to an extent the Internet.) what they must do to be saved from being found guilty under the Ten Commandments and suffer eternal punishment in Hell. It is simply “Repentance(Turning away from selfish evil lifestyles)” and “Faith(trust) in Jesus for their salvation. With God’s help, I treat others with respect and courtesy. It does not mean I water down God’s Word. Biblical love is done truthfully.
I have previously wrote about sign guys. I do not want to lump ALL guys using signs in gospel presentations as bad or non-biblical. Sign people, whose presentations have the complete follow through of the Gospel I respect as brothers and sisters. Follow-thru is very important in Gospel presentations. Without the grace following the law during evangelistic outings, it becomes just as bad as those watering the Word with a feel good message.
So today’s word is: Follow-thru. It makes Gospel presentations clear and effective when done in the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:20 (New Living Translation)
So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!
If you want to see sinners repent and place their faith in Jesus, then we need to bring the church to the sinner. Many in the church have it backwards, build a church and the sinner attend. It may happen. Yet according to the Great Commission, we are told by Jesus to “Go into the world.”
If you are a Christian believer, then you are commanded by Christ to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to all people. 155,000 people die each day. Many without repenting and placing their faith in Jesus. What are you doing about it? You may say….”I leave it to the preacher and those called to evangelism.” However, the commandment Jesus gave before ascending into Heaven was for every believer to share and preach the Gospel. So the only way you can be excluded from this is if you are not a believer.
I’m not implying you should become a Billy Graham and hold crusades, unless the Lord tells you. You daily go out into the public via your job, recreational facilities, events, ball games, etc., so you have a field God has given you to tend. I will say in the area of you job, do the job you were hired. You can witness by your work ethic and during your lunch break or off the clock you can witness personally to your co-workers.
After church services, I went out to the mall for some fishing(street evangelism). I purposefully dropped the million dollar bills on the ground. In one instance, I saw a group of college age kids pick up the bill. One guy started reading the tract. He then passed it on to his friends. One bill tract was read by seven kids. Pray for these college kids.
In another situation after I dropped a bill, a high school kid picked the bill up read the gospel message and in disgust threw it back on the ground. It was momentarily picked up by a young grade school kid. Then his dad grabbed it out of his hands. The dad read the back and in a huff he tore the bill up and threw it in the garbage. Now you may say, that was a waste of a tract. However, two men read the gospel message. It cut them in the heart and offended them. Yet, only after time the seeds which were planted will take effect. Over time they will either grow bitter towards the Gospel or it will “bug the tar” out of them til they realize their need for repentance and a Savior. Yet, when they die and stand before the Lord, God will ask them why the rejected the Gospel message. It may have been their only opportunity to know Christ before dying. Just as scripture says:
Romans 1:20 (New Living Translation)
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
Do not expect immediate conversion at point of impact. Just like gardening, it takes time to see the results. Even though time is growing short and God will enter time and space. He will say time is up. Everyone will have to give an account of why they did or did not repent and place their faith in Christ.
Share Jesus with others while the clock is ticking and let us bring as many people to Heaven. The more the merrier.
August 10, 2009
Here is the Million Dollar Question: Are you good enough to go to Heaven? Let’s go through the Ten Commandments and see if you qualify.
Exodus 20:2-17 (New Living Translation)
2 “I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery.
3 “You must not have any other god but me.
4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. 6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands.
7 “You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
12 “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You must not murder.
14 “You must not commit adultery.
15 “You must not steal.
16 “You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.
17 “You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.
No matter how you can justify yourself…you have broken all of them in one way or another. Murder? I’ve never killed anyone, Robert…sheesh. Yet, look at it in a different angle….ever called anyone a name or put someone down? Your name calling and put downs are murder. Looked at a woman in lust….or did the “second look”? It is still adultery.
Now when you die, you will appear before God. It will be like a courtroom setting.(You’ll wish you had Judge Judy.) God will examine the evidence.(Birth to death, your life has been recorded.)
Will you be found innocent or guilty? If you say innocent, why? “Oh, God is an all loving and good God and will overlook my past, I do plenty of good deeds.” If God is to be a good and righteous judge, he cannot turn a blind eye.
Let’s go to a real courtroom setting and apply the same idea: A child molester appears before a judge. The child molester says to the judge…”I know you are a good judge and can just look over this crime and let me go.”(Then the molester slips the judge a $20) You would be outraged if the judge said, “Ok, case dismissed.” The judge would be corrupt and should be removed from his judicial position.
It is the same way with God. He cannot be bought out with our “good” deeds. Scripture says,
Isaiah 64:6 (New King James Version)
6 But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
Have taken us away.
The Hebrew translation for filthy rags is menstrual rags. For us guys, it is called a used tampon. We cannot buy God off with our so called “good” works.
Now be honest. We are guilty. All of us have sinned. Sin is a word for missing the mark. Remember taking archery in gym class? If you did not get the dead center(bulls-eye ), but shot anywhere around dead center, it is called sin.
So now knowing we are Guilty, what is the punishment? It is Hell.
Revelation 20:15 (New King James Version)
15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
Now does this concern you? It should. I don’t want to go to Hell and neither do I want to see you go to Hell.
At the end of a United States President’s term, he has the option of pardoning individuals for crimes they have committed. Even though the person is guilty of the crime. The President with one signature can declare that person innocent and free.
Why did I make that statement after saying we are guilty and deserve Hell? Here is the good news for you as a guilty person standing before God and getting ready to be sentenced for eternity in Hell. You fine has been paid. A pardon has been issued on you behalf.
2,000 years ago God came to Earth as both man and God. He was perfect in every way. In all his 32-plus years on Earth he did not sin in thought, word, or deed. As being a sinless being, he was nailed to a tree and his blood spilled. God saw this as a satisfactory payment for the sins of the world. Then get this….Jesus arose from the dead. He not only spilled his blood for your sins, but defeated death for you and me.
Isaiah 53:5 (New King James Version)
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
John 3:16 (Amplified Bible)
16For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
Will all this information what will you do? A decision needs to me made. You cannot put it off, because you do not have a guarantee you will be alive in the next 3 minutes. Do you accept and receive the pardon?
You must admit you are a sinner, you must repent(turn away and not go back to the same way of living) from your sins, and finally you must receive the pardon of your sins, Jesus Christ. Like a present under a Christmas tree waiting to be opened, God offers you salvation from the wrath of himself through his Son, Jesus. You need to cry out to Jesus. Right now. Ask him to wipe away your sins by his blood. Place your faith in Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8 (New Living Translation)
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
As a result according to Scripture:
Romans 8:1 (New Living Translation)
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
Another version of the Bible says it like this:
Romans 8:1 (Contemporary English Version)
If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won’t be punished.
When you accept Jesus as your pardon, you are free and declared innocent.
So now what? You can start reading your Bible. Start with the book of John. Find a Biblical foundational church to attend. Warning: Many religious bodies claim to be Christian, but are dangerous cults. So pray for God to help you find a church. I can give you suggestions if you are unsure about a certain church body or you need some free spiritual material for your growth.
You may contact me personally at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Pray for God to send you some Christian friends to encourage you and support you in your daily walk with Jesus. Jesus loves you and so do I.

Isaiah 58: 1,7 (New Living Translation)
1 “Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast.
Shout aloud! Don’t be timid.
Tell my people Israel of their sins!”
7″Share your food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and do not hide from relatives who need your help.”
(This outreach note is also made available to CCJ Facebook people, North Knoxville Calvary Kinship B.B., my blog and those on my email list.) Today was a very warm day for the Downtown Outreach. A collapsible cooler was donated to hold bottles of water and easier to move and haul. Thank you to the persons for it and the two packages of bottle water. It holds about 30 bottles of the Nestle water and a small bag of ice. The new cooler comes with a container to fill with water and freeze to keep drinks cooler longer. I was able to pass out about 24 bottles of water. I had 3 packs of water with a total of 84 bottles of water.
I was not able to give out all due to all the ice melted in the cooler and funds to buy ice were not available and I met up with a church out of Maryville that was handing out bottles of water as well. Since a Maryville church had already arrived before me, I respectfully moved to another area to hand out water bottles to for maximum impact and outreach to those not near where the Maryville church was handing them out. I also was able to handout bible tracts to people for them to read.
I ran across Teresea(the lady I met from the previous Saturday, she is a believer.) she made notice of my new bag that held my tracts.(one of the Wal-Mart green bags.) I was using plastic bags but were splitting from the weight of the tracts. I met a couple and they said they thank the Lord for sending me to bless them. He has alcohol issues and I told him the Lord loves him and suggested to him to not drink himself drunk and dehydrate in the heat. Alcohol is a large addiction to the homeless population and many will drink out in the open but have the bottle covered in a bag to hide what they are drinking from law enforcement.
I will most likely go this Friday instead of Saturday due to the Holiday. This is to provide opportunity to anyone among the CC Knoxville body or those wanting to replicate a similar ministry in their church. Please contact me via email: email@example.com or call the Calvary Chapel Knoxville office to get my cell number.
Prayer Needs: Protection of those participating to not get hurt or overheat.
Protection of the water and bible tracts.
God to go before us to minister as he leads us to those downtown.
Authentic Conversion to Christ and turning away from sin(genuine repentance) to those we minister.
Provision of bottles of water and ice.

Mark 16:15 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
15 Then He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
If you cannot physically go to another country, then I ask you to pray to see how God can use you to bless missionaries in other countries. Gospel for Asia is an Christian organization which trains native missionaries to share the saving power of Jesus Christ to their own people.
Look for ways you can help spread the gospel. You can recycle soda cans, sell you music CD’s, pawn some jewelry, and many other ways. Please pray for God to guide you in supporting missionaries around the world.

1 Timothy 1:14-16 (New Living Translation)
14 Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.
15 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
Jesus has paid the price for our sins. Whenever we miss the mark of perfection of Jesus, we have forgiveness and a clean screen. All you have to do is accept, confess , and believe.
Accept: Recognize God loves us so much he sent Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead to defeat death once and for all.
Confess: Agree with the Lord we are eternally lost and deserve eternal separation in a literal place called Hell. We must not only recognize we are sinners, we must stop and turn away from our sins.
Believe: Put your trust and faith in Jesus. Like a birthday present, God has a gift for you(Jesus) now will you choose to open the gift. The gift does you no good if it remains unopened.
Just call upon the name of God to open the gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ. When you receive Him in your life. You are clean and a brand new creation.
Yes as long as we are in these flawed bodies we will slip and fall. Yet, because Christ has taken residence in our lives, we are forgiven and being daily made into the likeness of Christ.
Here is a website for further information how you can make this decision to invite Christ into your life.
Greg Laurie will guide you in much more detail into what it means to be a Christian and experience a brand new life in Jesus.
